The Chamber's Local Council in Wigan consists of a group of business people who meet quarterly to explore issues pertinent to Wigan businesses and give feedback on those issues. The Council's objective is to provide a collective voice for Wigan business and improve the environment for organisations to do business.
Wigan Local Council is chaired by Wigan President, Miranda Barker of Allen Environmental. Succession planning will be an item on the next agenda to agree the next President.

Wigan Local Council focuses on improving the opportunities for businesses in Wigan through working closely with the local authority and organising the Wigan Business Awards and supporting the Business Expo.
In recent times the Local Council has provided input to the Wigan Local Transport Plan and learnt about opportunities arising from the Olympics 2012. The action points from the last meeting included a call to help a local high school in delivering their ambitious Future Curriculum projects, a requirement for better engagement from the Local Authority on changes to the Planning Legislation and requesting feedback ahead of planning events in 2012.
