The Chamber's Local Council in Tameside consists of a group of business people who meet quarterly to explore issues pertinent to Tameside businesses and give feedback on those issues. The Council's objective is to provide a collective voice for Tameside business and improve the environment for organisations to do business in the borough.
Tameside Local Council is chaired by the Tameside President, Lynn Kerfoot of Newland Engineering. Lynn writes a column in the Tameside Reporter and, in her role as MD of Newland and President of the Chamber, has featured in local, regional and national media discussing the issues that are affecting the business community.

Tameside’s Local council has particular concerns over the issue of Youth unemployment and employability skills in the borough, and is in ongoing contact with Tameside's education sector.
The group is also playing an active part in feeding back local members' views on business support provided in the borough by the Manchester Family and the Local Borough Council.
Several members of the council played an active part in the setting up of Tameside Business Family and are heavily involved in shaping its future.
The council’s feedback on late payment and the effects of problems in accessing finance have played a major role in the shaping of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce’s policy work on these issues.
