Salford Local Council has identified a number of key areas where they want to make a difference. These are:
Accessing Talent – there is a small sub-group which meets to discuss various challenges and potential solutions around skills shortages, particularly of young people in Salford. One of the outcomes of this is that the next Salford Breakfast event will be exploring the opportunities for local businesses to access apprentices, interns and graduates, and ensure that education organisations understand what business requires.
Low Carbon Economy – A number of the Local Council members, particularly EnerG Combined Power, are involved in a project with Salford City Council to upgrade an old commercial unit on Kansas Avenue to make it more energy efficient. Red Rose Forest Trust is the tenant in the unit and is benefiting from new windows and energy monitoring equipment. The aim of the project is to demonstrate cost savings against the capital costs of the upgrade.
At a recent meeting, Salford Local Council agreed to support efforts by Salford City Council to include extending the capacity and upgrading of platforms at Salford Central Station, as part of the Northern Hub rail project.
