Recruitment and training lays solid foundations for Hughes Brothers

Construction company Hughes Brothers is building on its reputation for positive employment – and reaping the rewards as a result.

The firm has hired offenders to work on its refurbishment programme, helping social landlords across the North West meet the Government's Decent Homes Standard.

One such employee, who recently trained as a plasterer, was hired by another company closer to his home after achieving professional qualifications.

The company, which has 130 staff, is working with the Probation Service and Work Solutions to recruit more employees as the demand for skilled labour increases.

Hughes Brothers' Voids Manager Steve Croft said: “The thing that impressed me about the lads is the enthusiasm and energy they bring to the job.

“This may be because they are grateful for the chance we have given them, but they have certainly done a good job for us.

"We’ve been very pleased with how it’s worked out – and we will continue to work with Probation to recruit more staff. We’re always looking for good people."
